BRITTANY SIMS

Brittany Sims was born in 1985 in Washington DC. She attended the Academy of the Holy Cross in Kensington, MD and studied art and art history at Tulane University in New Orleans. In 2005 Hurricane Katrina disrupted her studies. During her unintended sabbatical from New Orleans, Brittany further developed her artistic vision at both Fordham University in New York and John Cabot University in Rome before returning to Tulane to complete her BFA in painting in 2007.

In 2008 Brittany began the MFA program at the New York Studio School focusing again on painting. After her thesis show in May 2010, Brittany won the prestigious Hohenberg Travel Grant, and spent the summer studying art in London. Her studies abroad culminated in a final show at the New York Studio School in January 2011.

Brittany has had the privilege to study with renowned portrait artists Cedric and Joanette Egeli in Edgewater, Maryland. Working alongside the artists as an apprentice, Brittany cultivated and refined her skills in portraiture and figure articulation. Brittany has also been Artist in Residence at Strathmore in Bethesda and at VisArt in Rockville.

Brittany began live painting at weddings in 2011, fell in love with the process and has been wedding painting ever since! She has been lucky to work with many talented vendors and venues in the DMV including the Peabody Library, Silver Swan Bayside, Maryland Club, Rehoboth Beach Country Club, Central Park Boathouse and so many more!

Additionally, Brittany has worked as a subcontractor for various Washington, DC design and finishing firms. Brittany has been involved with both high end finishings and fine art at such restaurants as Provision 14, Lincoln, Sax, Irish Whiskey and Capitale, as well as numerous private and residential projects in the DC area.

Her original paintings can be seen on public display at CapitaleIrish WhiskeySax, and in private collections throughout the area.
